Both Mean Green golf teams competed in tournaments that wrapped up on Tuesday. The men took part in the Jim River Intercollegiate in Ruston, La., while the women competed in the Florida International University Pat Bradley International. Both tournaments were the last event of the fall portion of both teams’ schedules. Tournaments will resume in February.

Men

The Mean Green men’s golf team finished in sixth place in the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate tournament in Ruston, La. This marks the highest the team has finished in any tournament this season.

Though the Mean Green was not able to come in first place as a team, sophomore Gonzalo Rubio came in first place individually after shooting an 8-under par 208. This was the best finish from a Mean Green golfer since 1998.

The men will be back on the course Feb. 10 at the Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio.

Women

The Mean Green women’s team notched their third-straight ninth-place finish at the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational.

The team was in fifth after day two of the tournament on Monday, but fell to ninth on the final day of action. Freshman Eji Kwon and senior Chaslyn Chrismer both finished in the top-25 individually

The next tournament the women will compete in will be the Islander Classic on Feb. 24 in Corpus Christi.
