The Mean Green volleyball team lost its third straight conference match, falling to the University of North Carolina – Charlotte 49ers in four sets (25-14, 25-21, 25-12, 25-20).

Junior outside hitter Carnae Dillard and freshman middle blocker Amanda Chamberlain dominated the helped the Mean Green  (12-9, 3-5 C-USA) win the first set 25-14 with five kills each.

“I think we all came out with a lot of energy and a lot of fight. We were ready to win this game.” Chamberlain said.

The Mean Green took a 9-8 lead early in the second set, but the 49ers (13-12, 2-7 C-USA) took the lead later in the set at 16-12. North Texas made the set competitive but could not get into a rhythm, losing it 21-25.

“Charlotte just started playing up a little bit, and we got impatient in both the second and third set, when you get a little impatient hitters start doing a little more than they need to, and we fell into that trap.” Head coach Andrew Palileo said.

The third set was much of the same for the Mean Green as they fell behind early 1-6. The team was unable to get anything going, at one point giving up seven straight points and eventually dropping it 12-25.

The fourth set was competitive from start to finish, with Charlotte holding a slim lead throughout. The Mean Green got within striking distance and momentum began to shift, and the team was able to take a 12-11 lead. However, Charlotte proved to be too much for the Mean Green to handle as they dropped the fourth set and the match.

The Mean Green will travel to Ruston, Louisiana to face Louisiana Tech University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
