Mean Green season opener against FIU delayed

The UNT football team’s season opener against Florida International has been delayed 20 minutes due to lightning.

The teams were told to clear the field twice in pregame warm ups as a lightning-producing storm system rolled through the Miami area. Sirens were heard in the area around FIU Stadium.

The Mean Green is opening the 2011-2012 schedule against the reigning Sun Belt Conference champion Panthers. The game will be new head coach Dan McCarney’s first game.

The storms are expected to clear and the game will be played. Play will begin at 6:26 p.m..
