You never know what’s going to pop up on your Twitter news feed. Sometimes breaking news will flash across the screen, while other times your friends will be posting something silly or non-important.

In some cases, though, you may find something that makes you curious—perhaps a Twitter handle that might be breaking some rules?

Yesterday we here at the NT Daily noticed a certain tweet by the Fry Street Public House, and while the tweet was a typical announcement of the establishment’s specials, something else caught our attention: its Twitter handle, @UNTPublicHouse.

We were caught off guard by the bar’s choice to use the “UNT” acronym, so we asked  why it decided to include the letters in the handle.

Nine hours after the question was posed, they responded.

After receiving the answer from Public House, we quickly asked the university if they were even aware of its brand being used in a private business’ social media page and whether or not the private business was allowed to.

The answer was apparently no, on both counts, as Ellen Rossetti, a spokesperson from UNT, said, “UNT does not endorse private businesses, and the university does not allow businesses to use the UNT brand without the university’s permission.”

Rossetti also said, “The university was not aware of the @UNTPublicHouse Twitter handle and plans to reach out to Fry Street Public House to resolve the situation,” confirming that UNT had no clue its name was being used.

Apparently the wheels have been set in motion for the two entities to discuss the matter as UNT’s social media strategist, Landon Sloan, tweeted at the bar today.

While we’re not sure how this will all turn out, we are anxious for the conclusion. In this case journalistic curiosity may lead to a rebranding on the part of the Fry Street establishment.
